"Tap water-friendly sports organization" award
On the occasion of World Water Day on 22 March 2024, German sports clubs, universities and other sports organizations can apply for awards as part of the “Tap Water Friendly Sports Organizations” campaign. The aim of the campaign by the Berlin-based association a tip: tap e.V. is to designate sports organizations throughout Germany as tap water-friendly. This award could offer added value, particularly for golf courses with existing water dispensers.
According to the criteria of a tip: tap, anyone who does not spend money on bottled water and offers tap water at events is considered tap water-friendly. This also includes some golf courses in Germany. From the St. Eurach Land- und Golfclub south of Munich, which recently had a water dispenser installed, to the Golfclub Bodensee Weißensberg and the Golfclub Hamburg-Walddörfer in the north, numerous course operators have already installed water dispensers. Visitors can fill up their water bottles with tap water here.
Save plastic waste, CO2 and money with healthy tap water
a tip:tap calls in the campaign for athletes and employees to have easy access to tap water. “Tap water is cheap, easily available, environmentally friendly and healthy – and therefore also the best choice for sport. Whether it’s a tennis club, soccer club, sports school or university sports – every organization can receive an award and contribute to making tap water the number one drink in sports,” says Joana Ciraci, a tip: tap’s sports club tap water officer, in a company press release.
Anyone interested in receiving an award must fulfil certain criteria. This includes an existing offer of tap water instead of bottled water, which includes unrestricted access to tap water, no budget for bottled water and no sponsoring, as well as offering tap water to third parties (visitors, customers, partners, members) and at events. The award and the topic of tap water should also be communicated both externally (e.g. social media post, press release, website, newsletter, letter to parents, etc.) and internally (employees, members, in educational institutions).
Registration until March 22, 2024
A self-commitment form to be completed by the participant for the free award is available on the a tip: tap page here.
On the homepage of the association you can also view an overview map to see which of the 260 award-winning organizations in Germany are already on board.
As recent studies have shown, plastic waste is one of the key issues on German golf courses. Among other things, this includes no longer handing out plastic water bottles. International sports organizers (e.g. The Open or tournament organizers in the amateur sector) as well as some top international courses such as Arabella Golf on Mallorca or Saadiyat Beach and Yas Links in the United Arab Emirates have already adopted this approach.
