Finca Cortesin signs Women in Golf Charter

The 2023 Solheim Cup venue , Finca Cortesin, has signed the Women in Golf Charter. The charter was launched by the R&A in 2018 to ensure more girls and women participate in golf. In addition, it is also about getting women more involved in golf as a business sector and giving them more opportunity to develop a career.

Promotion of women in the golf business and professional sports

Finca Cortesin, with the signing of the charter, has committed to offering several high-caliber intern positions in the operations area of the resort and in the agronomy area. In addition, the Cortesin Nicklaus Academy will offer two golf clinics per year just for women and girls in the future. The third project planned is to support young female players on their way to becoming professional golfers. Here, Finca Cortesin already supports the proettas Nuria Iturrioz, Noemi Jimenez Martin and Laura Gomez. On the occasion of the signing of the charter, Marta Figueras-Dotti, board member of the Ladies Europan Tour was also accepted as an honorary member. She was instrumental in bringing the Solheim Cup to Spain for 2023.

More than 1000 signatories

The Women in Golfers Charter has now been signed by more than 1000 associations, clubs and individuals. Some of the signatories have developed special programs to promote women’s golf. Golf Canada, for example, conducts a regular Women’s Leadership Summit. Women looking to advance within the golf industry can also participate in the Women in Golf Leadership Development Program. Here they meet managers and responsible persons from the golf industry to exchange experiences.

Female golfers accounted for 27 percent of all players, according to the Participation in Golf in Spain report. Only one-fourth of all golf associations had more than 30 percent women. Austria led the way with a 38 percent share of women. In this respect, the awarding of the Solheim Cup to Finca Cortesin is another opportunity for Spain to increase public awareness of women’s golf. The Solheim Cup will be held from September 18 to 24, 2023.
