Great for insects, strong in communication – this is the ideal case when it comes to the initiatives that German golf courses have launched to improve biodiversity on their golf courses. In order to focus more on the important combination of project implementation and communication, the Bavarian Golf Association and the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment are organizing the Blooming Golf Courses competition: A Hole in One in Communication.
Projects that are characterized by special, creative communication ideas can be submitted. The following questions should be answered:
- How are the measures to protect our insects made tangible for our members?
- What innovative public relations work is being implemented?
- How is the commitment communicated in an imaginative way?
Who can take part?
Bavarian golf clubs that are members of the Bavarian Golf Association and have a current “Blooming Golf Course” award can take part. Golf clubs with an expired certificate from 2021 to 2023 can apply for a new “Blooming Golf Course” award and then also participate.
The following requirements apply to the submitted project: A meaningful measure for the protection of biodiversity must have been implemented on the golf course, accompanied by a corresponding communication campaign or public relations work. The project must have been completed. However, it must not have been implemented before 2024.
Award ceremony
In summer 2026, a jury made up of people from nature conservation and golf will select the best three projects – a combination of biodiversity measures and communication campaigns. The winners are expected to be honored by the Bavarian State Minister for the Environment in September 2026 and will each receive €500.
Application deadline is June 2026 via an online form or an application form.
