LET launches "Celebrating the Green" initiative
The Ladies European Tour, LET, wants to deal more with the topic of “sustainable environmental protection” in the future. That’s why she created the initiative Celebrating the Green presented by DOW . As Alexandra Armas, CEO of LET, announced today, the US chemical company DOW and the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf are supporting the campaign.
“The LET is aware of the fundamental importance of issues such as the loss of biodiversity, air and sea pollution or climate change,” explained Armas. “We know that many of our concerns are also shared by our members, partners, tournament organizers and venues. By working together, we can do more and achieve more.”
In a first step, the LET projects are collected and communicated that are relevant with regard to the United Nations’ “Global Goals for Sustainable Development” . A first look at the website shows three projects to date:
The Hero Women’s Indian Open was plastic-free in 2019. However, this was a political requirement of the Indian government.
Aberdeen Standard Investments , as title sponsor of the Ladies Scottish Open, has committed to offsetting the carbon footprint of players and caddies.
At the Aramco Saudi Ladies International tournament, held in Saudi Arabia in mid-November, Golf Saudi and the Saudi Golf Federation presented the National Golf Sustainability Strategy.
The extent to which further projects on the topic of “Golf and Sustainability” are planned for LET at LET in 2021 was still open when “Celebrating the Green” was announced today.
