ASGCA presents five environmental awards
The American Society of Golf Course Architects recognized five golf facilities in the ASGCA Environmental Excellence Awards. Receiving the honor were Brookline Golf Course in Massachusetts, Columbia Golf Course in Minneapolis, Como Golf Course in Minnesota, Union League National Golf Club in New Jersey and Las Piedras in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
The projects that led to the award reflect the diversity behind the term sustainability in golf. They range from better engaging the community in the game of golf to protecting species, preventing flooding or introducing phosphorus into waterways.
The Environmental Excellence Awards program was launched in 2019. It recognizes the innovative work of golf facilities that are addressing their environmental needs. Golf course architects work with golf course owners, operators and managers to positively impact the game and the community in which each facility is located.
Submissions were reviewed by a panel of golf industry and environmental leaders, including representatives from the GEO Foundation, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and the National Golf Course Owners Association.
