For those who want to think a little outside of the golf scene, the Sport Ecology Group is hosting a series of free webinars and workshops on Thursday, April 22nd, Earth Day . The following topics are on the program on Thursday:
- How Climate Change is Impacting Sports
- State of the Field: Sustainability in ProSports

On the last topic, speakers include Dr. Blair Trewin from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and Dr. James Smallcombe from the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney , which has been dealing with increasing periods of extreme heat for years.
Other speakers include Dr. Ian James , who runs facilities management for the England and Wales Cricket Board and Dom Winter , who is responsible for the Protect our Winters UK initiative. A general insight into the sustainability debate in professional sports is given by Dr. Brian McCullough , co-director of the Sport Ecology Group at Texas A&M University and Matthew Campellig , founder of the Sustainability Report , which regularly addresses the issue of sustainability in sport.
On Friday, there will be a student workshop entitled “ Serving the Sport Sector Through Research ” involving scholars from the Universities of Ottawa and Suny Cortland.
Due to the time difference – the Sport Ecology Group is an association of American scientists – the program does not start until the afternoon on both days. The exact program can be viewed here.
