Away from plastic waste – professionals rely on bamboo
The Austrian Matthias Schwab now only hits his ball from bamboo tees. The reason: International Sports Management (ISM), its marketing partner, has decided on a new cooperation with the company Ocean Tee Golf, which specializes in the production of golf products from sustainable materials and propagates the avoidance of plastic waste. Ocean Tees, for example, are made exclusively from bamboo and packed in recyclable boxes. In addition, Ocean Tee now produces polo shorts and sweaters for golfers, which are made from cotton and biodegradable elastic. 25% of company profits go directly to charity projects that work to protect the oceans.
ISM, one of the best-known management agencies in Europe, which also has Rory McIlroy as a client, wants to use the cooperation to raise awareness of the issue of sustainability in professional sports. Ed Sandison, founder of Ocean Tee, continues his company’s commitment to encouraging golfers to “make small changes that have a significant impact on the environment.” From his point of view, plastic or wooden tees have long been an absurdity on the golf course. This now also applies to all professionals who are under contract with ISM. From now on, bamboo teas will be knocked off.
