Yamaha presents hydrogen-powered golf cart
Two high-pressure hydrogen tanks power the four-seater golf car from the Yamaha Golf Car Company, headquartered in Iwata, Japan. Presented at the industry-leading PGA Show 2024 in Florida, the Drive H2 Concierge 4presented at the industry show in Florida, joins other Yamaha concept models developed with hydrogen technology, including generators, ROVs, motorcycles and marine outboard engines.
The Drive H2 is based on the four-seater golf cart, which will be sold primarily in the USA, but also worldwide, and is equipped with two high-pressure hydrogen tanks (25 liters each), which are located under the driver’s seat and at the back of the rear seat.
Hydrogen engines are combustion engines that can make use of existing technologies and at the same time do not emit CO₂ during combustion. For this reason, Yamaha is also researching and developing this technology, as it has the potential to achieve both the continued use of combustion engines and decarbonization.
Promotion of decarbonization
Matt Taylerson, Divisional Manager, Marketing on the new concept model: “In February 2022, Yamaha Motor President Yoshihiro Hidaka announced that we are working towards becoming carbon neutral by 2050. The word ‘engine’ is in our company name, and we have a strong passion and commitment to the combustion engine. This reflects Yamaha’s commitment to continue developing clean internal combustion engines by leveraging our existing engine technology and is in line with our commitment to decarbonization and sustainability.”
