Who actually believes in sustainable vacations when the destination Belek in Turkey is mentioned? Probably hardly anyone: Belek is well known for huge hotels, all-inclusive vacations and comparatively low prices in the golf industry. A 5-star vacation is affordable here. The combination of sustainability and a golf vacation in Belek seems to be impossible at first.
A current example shows that club vacations on the Turkish Riviera can also be sustainable for golfers. With the Megasaray Club in Belek, there is now a hotel that meets the standards of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. And these are the benchmark when it comes to sustainable tourism. In addition, the hotel is now also a new member of the Green Pearls Association, which also only brings together sustainable hotels and destinations.
The Megasaray Club’s own solar park alone covers 50 % of the resort’s total electricity consumption. The SAN-TUR photovoltaic project (GES), which was completed in 2024 in the province of Kırıkkale, 80 kilometres east of Ankara, on an area of 50,334 m², is an outstanding example of the use of renewable energies in the Turkish hotel industry. With a capacity of 3,500 kWe (3.5 MW), the system covers almost 50 % of the energy requirements of the Megasaray Westbeach Antalya and Megasaray Club Belek hotels. This leads to an annual saving of 4,000 tons of coal and avoids around 5,000 tons of CO2 emissions. The electricity is then consumed by the heat pumps, for example. These are the heating systems of choice at the Megasaray Club.
Waste, water and resource management are certified as sustainable. The cleaning products are ecological, local plants are primarily used in the gardens and regionality plays a major role in the gastronomy. Otherwise, if you are looking for a classic club vacation in Belek, you will also find it here. For the guest, the resort does not differ from other clubs at first glance.
