LET honors Dutch Ladies Open
Sustainability initiatives in professional golf attract positive attention. On the Ladies European Tour, player Sára Kousková was therefore honored as an individual and the Dutch Ladies Open in the Netherlands as a tournament at the start of 2025 for the 2024 season. Kousková from the Czech Republic was named Sustainable Golf Champion by the GEO Foundation, which works closely with the Ladies European Tour. For Kousková, who has been exploring the possibilities of a more environmentally friendly professional life for years, the cooperation with GEO as Sustainable Golf Champion is an important step towards raising even more awareness of sustainability in professional sport. “The main goal is to get even more people on board, raise awareness and inspire the next generations. We all have very busy lives, but even small steps towards a more sustainable life make a big difference.”
The Dutch Ladies Open at the Hilversumsche Golf Club in the Netherlands received the award for the Sustainability Initiative 2024. As part of the tournament, the organizers had tried to promote cycling in particular. Cycling is very popular in the Netherlands. At the tournament, spectators and volunteers in the region were encouraged to cycle to the venue. Players, volunteers and spectators were asked to bring their own refillable water bottles so that no plastic water bottles were given out or sold. In addition, event materials from the previous year such as flags, banners and canvases were recycled and made into new products such as bags to be distributed as gifts in the Pro-Am and to volunteers. As the organizer of the Dutch Ladies Open, the Dutch Golf Association only allows golf courses that participate in GEO certification to host major tournaments.
