Cool bag and great story
Circular economy is one of Sam Goulden‘s favourite topics. When he designed the MNML golf bag, which is currently primarily sold on the US market but will also be available in Europe in spring 2024, he also wanted to offer the buyer of a new bag a sensible way to dispose of their used bag, which might have ended as rubbish. In 2022, the Trade It Forward program was created, which gives customers the opportunity to donate their old golf bag to the Junior Foundation of the Southern California Golf Association. The customer simply puts the bag in the box in which the new MNML bag is delivered, uses the finished dispatch note and sends it on to the Junior Foundation. More than 1000 used golf bags have already ended up with young golfers in this way, enabling their parents to invest the money for a new bag for their son or daughter elsewhere.
“I just wanted the parents to be able to save that 200 dollars and spend it somewhere else. Junior golf is pretty expensive, especially when you think about tournament golf, so every little bit counts,” explains Goulden, who played a lot of golf himself as a youngster. At the beginning of the program, Sam Goulden’s company also took over the shipping costs, before realizing that they were slipping into the red when selling the MNML bags. Since then, shipping within the USA is no longer included. But still, if you want to decimate your stock of old golf bags in the cellar, this is a wonderful opportunity to do something for a good cause.
RePet as a material
Then the new golf bag is even more fun. The MNML golf bag, which actually differs from standard golf bags in many ways, is fortunately produced sustainably. Made from RePet, a polyester material from recycled plastic bottles, the bag is pretty minimalist without any big logos, equipped with magnets instead of zippers and also has a headphone jack, a phone holder, a phone charging port and a waterproof Bluetooth headset whose batteries are supposed to last eight hours.
