Dutch Ladies Open receives ISO certification
The Dutch Ladies Open sets high standards when it comes to sustainability. In 2024, the tournament, which took place in Hilversum last year, was recognized as the Sustainability Initiative of the Ladies European Tour. Sustainability is once again the focus of this year’s event, which has moved to the Goyer Golf & Country Club. ISO 20121 certification was awarded at the start of the event, which is considered very difficult to get and is therefore shunned by many events.
The international certificate confirms that the event has implemented sustainable management processes that take environmental, social and economic aspects into account. The certification was awarded by the auditing company Kiwa, which conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the event. At the same time, the Goyer Golf & Country Club meets the standards of the GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation.
If you take a closer look at the event, you will come across a number of other initiatives that promote the topic of sustainability:
- Visitors are encouraged to travel by bike, public transport or carpooling to minimise CO₂ emissions.
- The players were at least made aware of alternative travel options to air travel in order to reduce the environmental impact. Some of the proettes prefer to travel by car, at least within Europe.
- Event materials are reused or recycled; gifts for volunteers and players are made from 100% recycled material.
- Sustainable and local products are used for catering to reduce the ecological footprint. The proportion of vegetarian products has been increased.
- To minimise the environmental impact, a comprehensive waste avoidance and separation concept is implemented. Drinks in plastic bottles are not available on site.
- At the same time, efforts are being made to reduce energy consumption during the tournament by using energy-efficient appliances and lighting systems.
- Information campaigns and workshops for visitors and participants are designed to promote environmental awareness. This includes a nature walk on the golf course during a tournament day.
The sustainability initiative was presented to the public with GEO ambassador Sara Kouskova. The goal is clear: the Dutch Open wishes to be voted the most sustainable tournament on the Ladies European Tour again this year.
