Because a look at the current map material on precipitation levels and soil saturation shows that even the comparatively greater rainfall in 2021 is not enough in some federal states to compensate for the deficits of the previous years. If you look at the overall soil values of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufz.de\/index.php?de=37937\">UFZ drought monitor of the Helmholtz Center<\/a> in mid-December 2021, you will still find numerous areas in <strong>Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg<\/strong> , for example, in which the overall soil is reported as \u201cmoderate drought\u201d. The ground is &#8220;dry&#8221; down to a depth of 1.8 meters in many areas. Regions such as the Swabian Alb are particularly badly affected by water shortages compared to the whole of Germany. While neighboring Bavaria can now speak of a recovery in terms of water, Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg remains one of the drier federal states in Germany.<\/p>\n<div hcb-fetch-image-from=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/manual-program-for-optimal-greens\/\" class='avia-iframe-wrap'>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"R633nqyvfZ\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/manual-program-for-optimal-greens\/\">Hand watering becomes a mandatory program<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Hand watering becomes a mandatory program&#8221; &#8212; Golf Sustainable\" src=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/manual-program-for-optimal-greens\/embed\/#?secret=dbkxCeAQ5U#?secret=R633nqyvfZ\" data-secret=\"R633nqyvfZ\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The local golf industry has reacted to this: Water management is one of those issues that characterize the work on golf courses in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bwgv.de\/\">Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg Golf Association<\/a> again and again. In order to reduce water consumption in the long term and to react to a possible increase in water prices or even a reduction in the quantities by the providers, the topic is being tackled from several sides.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Various systems are in the process of increasing the storage capacities on the systems. At the <a href=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/gc-hetzenhof-relies-on-cooperation-with-nabu\/\">Hetzenhof golf course<\/a>, for example, a particularly large reservoir with a capacity of 40.000 m\u00b3 is currently under construction.<\/li>\n<li>The full potential of storage ponds can only be exploited if they are filled correctly. The collection of precipitation is therefore becoming more and more important. Be it that the water is filled into the ponds via gutters and pipes, as is the case for example on the driving range of the <a href=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/gc-bad-rappenau-focuses-on-nature-awareness\/\">GC Bad Rappenau<\/a>, or that the surface water on the golf course, including the paths, is collected via drainage and then fed into the reservoir. In this way, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/the-oeschberghof-sustainability-as-a-guideline\/\">Der \u00d6schberghof<\/a>, a golf resort with 45 holes, has achieved self-sufficiency when it comes to water. Here the reservoirs cover 25.000 m\u00b2.<\/li>\n<li>At the same time, modern irrigation methods play an important role: the conversion to systems with individual control of sprinklers plays an important role. At Mannheim Viernheim GC, for example, the number of sprinklers has been increased from 120 to 540 in order to enable fine-tuning of the sprinkling. The <a href=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/freiburg-golfers-rely-on-biodiversity\/\">GC Freiburg<\/a> also uses the new technology after the entire golf course has been renovated. &#8220;We try to optimize the control of each individual sprinkler and make adjustments here again and again,&#8221; sums up club manager Rossini Postiglione.<\/li>\n<li>At the same time, water consumption can be reduced by reducing the irrigated areas. At <a href=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/freiburg-golfers-rely-on-biodiversity\/\">St. Leon-Rot GC<\/a>, for example, numerous rough areas have been completely removed from irrigation. On the four golf courses of the <a href=\"https:\/\/golfsustainable.com\/en\/unesco-declares-orchard-cultivation-an-intangible-cultural-heritage\/\">Hofkammer of the House of W\u00fcrttemberg<\/a>, over the course of the past year, the greens have increasingly been watered by hand. This means that only those areas that actually need moisture are supplied.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ultimately, however, the increasing presence of the topic of lack of water in communication also has an effect: &#8220;The golfer must recognize that a shade of brown in the grass is not a deficiency symptom,&#8221; sums up <strong>Werner M\u00fcller as chairman of the Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg Greenkeeper Association<\/strong> , who is repeatedly confronted with the issue of drought in the Swabian Jura at GC Bad \u00dcberkingen. That fairways must always be deep green and lush is a superstition that golfers have largely overcome.
